Connection to an infrastructure network

Before you can enjoy our multi-gig fibre network, your home needs a connection from one of our infrastructure partners. We contract providers such as Openreach and CityFibre to install infrastructure on our behalf. Their engineering team handle everything — from digging ducts to installing kit — you’ve probably seen them close a road or two near you! They provide minimal fuss and no mess.

What to expect on install day

  1. Before they start…
    • Installations take anywhere between 1-3 hours, however, they may run longer depending on any obstacles the team may hit.
    • Our engineers aim for a neat and thorough job — they want to make sure you’re happy and online before they leave.
    • It’s important that an individual over the age of 18 is present at the property - it must be the account holder or someone else they know who is over 18. Our engineers will not proceed with the installation if they’re satisfied the occupant at the time is not over 18.
  2. Confirm the best location
    • The engineer will survey the property and suggest the best spot for your fibre entry and ONT
    • If you have a preferred location—say, a home office or living room wall—just let them know. You have 10m to play with from the point of entry. If you encounter any issues please get in touch with our support team.
  3. Feeding the Fibre Cable In
    • We’ll use existing underground ducts where possible; if not, we’ll carefully trench under your garden or driveway.
    • A tiny hole (about 5 mm Ø) is drilled through the wall, then sealed and tidied once the cable’s in.
    • Outside, you’ll see a neat fibre entry box (around the size of an iPad mini)—it may look slightly different in flats versus houses.
  4. Fitting the ONT (Optical Network Terminal)
    • Inside, we mount the ONT on your wall.
    • Your Brillband router plugs directly into this black box—it converts the fibre light signal into your blazing-fast Ethernet connection.

After your installation

We want to make sure you’re happy after your equipment has been installed. If not, please reach out to us and we’re happy to try our best to resolve any issues raised. We can always ask an engineer to revisit your property to resolve any issues with their work.
