Address book sync facility allows you to link address books to devices. By selecting address books to associate, they will appear as a single contact list from the device. By accessing the contacts on the phone you can use these to dial out. Incoming calls from entries in your address book will show the callers name, as long as your device supports this.
The address book sync facility uses LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol). If you have used the control panel auto-provision facilities to setup the phone, there is a strong likelihood the LDAP settings have already been put in place. To use it start by selecting the address books you want to sync and save. From within your phone’s directory they should appear, potentially in a directory called LDAP.If you didn’t use the auto-provisioning facilities to setup your phone, or the device wasn’t supported, you can setup LDAP manually. We have provided the likely settings you will be asked for on the Address Book sync page.
It is worth noting some known limitations with LDAP.
LDAP is read only. Any new entries or amendments cannot be made from the device, only the control panel.
You can only choose to merge the contacts as opposed to maintaining them as separate address books.
Some devices may not support all of the details associated to a contact. For example, only a single phone number may show via the device, regardless of the number you have associated in the control panel.
Cisco phones are capable of supporting contact search and calling, but they fail to show the associated callers name if they are included within an LDAP sourced address book. We have tried to find documentation to achieve this, but it does appear to be a design limitation.
