# What is a Letter of Authority (LOA)?

Letter of Authority, also known as Letter of Agency, Letter of Authorisation or Number Transfer Request, is a document that is exchanged between telecom companies, or between a customer and a telecom company, granting permission for the receiver to install telecom services for the sender. It should be completed by the end user prior to the submission of a porting request. It can allow the gaining telecoms provider the authorisation needed to contact the losing provider if additional information is needed about a particular setup.

### Pointers

* The form must be completed using your letterhead.
* Losing operator is the current communication provider. Ideally match the name and address as per their bill.
* The requester's name must match the printed and signed name at the bottom of the document.
* Each page needs to be signed, dated, named and numbered.
